Explore Our Men's Jackets and Coats
A men's jacket is one of the most consequential decisions in a wardrobe. The word itself traces back to the Middle French word jaquet, meaning a small or lightweight tunic, first recorded in use around the 1350s. Seven centuries later, the jacket remains the defining piece of men's outerwear: a garment for the upper body, typically sleeved, fastened at the front, lighter and closer-fitting than a coat, and available across more materials, silhouettes, and purposes than any other single garment category. Our men's jacket collection spans genuine leather, wool, denim, and down insulation, across every major silhouette from the leather bomber to the varsity jacket to the wool riding jacket to the trench coat.
How to Choose the Right Men's Jacket
With so many jacket types available, the right starting point is not style but purpose. Three questions narrow the field immediately:
- What temperature range will you wear it in most? A lightweight leather bomber or denim jacket suits mild to cool weather. A sherpa-lined wool jacket or down puffer handles genuine cold. A leather trench coat covers a wide range when layered correctly. Knowing your primary use temperature eliminates half the options before you consider style.
- What material fits your lifestyle and maintenance commitment? Leather develops character over years and requires periodic conditioning. Wool needs dry cleaning and careful storage. Denim is the lowest-maintenance option and improves with regular wear. Each material has a clear best use case; choosing the wrong one for your lifestyle leads to underuse or premature wear.
- What silhouette fits your wardrobe? A leather bomber or denim trucker jacket works with the widest range of casual outfits. A leather moto jacket adds edge and structure. A varsity or letterman jacket anchors a casual American aesthetic. A wool riding jacket or trench coat suits smart-casual and layered formal outfits. Match the silhouette to the outfits you already wear most.
Men's Jacket Materials Explained
Genuine Leather
The most durable and characterful outerwear material available. Full grain leather develops a rich patina with wear, holds its structure across decades, and provides natural wind resistance. Lambskin leather is softer and lighter, suited to closer-fitting styles like vests and puffer jackets. Genuine leather jackets require periodic conditioning but reward consistent care with a lifespan that outlasts any synthetic alternative.
Wool and Wool Blend
The superior cold-weather natural fiber. Wool insulates through trapped air in its natural fiber crimp, breathes actively to regulate body temperature, resists moisture and odor, and holds its warmth even when damp. Heavyweight wool blends with sherpa or quilt lining are among the warmest jacket options available without synthetic insulation. Wool jackets require dry cleaning and careful storage to maintain their shape and finish.
Denim
The most low-maintenance and culturally enduring casual jacket material. Denim improves with wear, fading and conforming to the wearer over time. A raw denim jacket develops entirely personal fade patterns; a pre-washed trucker jacket is wearable immediately with no break-in. Denim works across the widest range of casual outfit combinations and is the easiest jacket material to care for.
Down Insulation
Down fill, whether in a leather-shell puffer vest or a standard puffer jacket, delivers the highest warmth-to-weight ratio of any insulation material. Down compresses into quilted baffles that trap warm air efficiently against the body. A down-insulated leather vest or puffer jacket is lighter than an equivalent wool jacket while matching or exceeding its warmth in dry conditions.
Men's Jacket Styles in This Collection
Leather Bomber Jacket
Rooted in military aviation history. Hip-length silhouette with ribbed knit collar, cuffs, and waistband. Available in full grain cow leather and lambskin in black and brown. The most versatile leather jacket style for everyday casual and smart-casual wear.
Leather Moto and Biker Jacket
Defined by its asymmetric zip front, structured fit, snap collar, and zippered cuffs. Based on the Schott Perfecto, first produced in the early 20th century. The sharpest and most structured leather jacket silhouette available.
Leather Trench Coat
The most commanding silhouette in outerwear. Mid-thigh to below-knee length, double-breasted front, storm flap, self-belt, epaulettes, and cuff straps. Originally designed for British Army officers in the First World War, now executed in genuine leather for maximum durability and weather resistance.
Varsity and Letterman Jacket
Classic American outerwear combining a boiled wool body with genuine leather sleeves, ribbed knit trim, and snap-button closure. The varsity jacket traces its origins to the Harvard baseball team in 1865. The letterman jacket specifically refers to the award and personalization tradition built on that same silhouette.
Denim Jacket
The trucker jacket silhouette established by Levi's Type III in 1962: tapered body, two chest pockets, welt hand pockets, and bar tack reinforcements. Available in standard, raw, distressed, sherpa-lined, and oversized fits.
Wool Jacket
Heavyweight wool blend construction in riding jacket, plaid, and herringbone styles. Sherpa-lined options for maximum cold-weather warmth. The most naturally breathable and odor-resistant cold-weather jacket material.
Leather Vest
Sleeveless outerwear in lambskin leather. Available in down puffer, sherpa-lined, and western yoke styles. The most versatile layering piece in the collection, functioning as a mid-layer under heavier coats or a standalone outer layer in mild conditions.
General Fit Guide for Men's Jackets
- Shoulder seam: Should sit at the natural edge of your shoulder across all jacket types. A drooping seam means the jacket is too large; a seam pulling inward restricts movement.
- Chest: Should close cleanly without pulling. Leave enough room to layer a shirt or light sweater underneath for jackets designed as outer layers.
- Sleeve length: Should end at the wrist bone across all jacket styles, with roughly half an inch of shirt cuff showing when arms are extended.
- Length: Most jackets sit at the hip. Trench coats fall to mid-thigh or below. A jacket hem significantly above the hip loses the proportional balance of the silhouette.
- Layering sizing: If you plan to wear a sweater or hoodie underneath regularly, size up one from your standard measurement. Leather and wool have less stretch than fabric outerwear.
Our men's jackets collection spans genuine leather bombers, moto jackets, and trench coats, varsity and letterman jackets, denim trucker jackets, heavyweight wool jackets, and lambskin leather vests. Every jacket ships across the United States.
